Tips for preparing for photos

“De-cluttering and cleaning your home are the most important elements in staging.”

De-cluttering your home begins with packing up the non daily use items inside and outside your home. Remove all large appliances from counter tops and pack nick knacks away. Remove any bulky or over sized furniture from the home. Large furniture can be a distraction from the true size of the space.

You will want to give your home a thorough deep cleaning from top to bottom, leave no room untouched. Clean off all the surfaces, counters, shelves. Potential buyers want to walk into your home and be able to envision themselves and their belongings inside it. So make sure it is clean. If you are unable to deep clean your home due to lack of time or size we recommend hiring help. If you need a referral for a house cleaner we have a list of referrals who can help.

When you are staging your furniture in your home it is a good idea to keep the furniture off the walls. Keep the furniture in the living room facing each other with maybe a coffee table in the middle. This will create a comfortable space for conversation. The rule in staging is less is more!

Here in the Pacific North West our grass grows quickly in the spring, summer and sometimes fall so don’t forget the outside. Mow and edge the lawn, tidy up the garden/ flower beds.  Place garbage cans in the garage and park the cars up the street. The idea is there are no distractions in front of the house.

As always, if you have any more questions about this or any other real estate topic, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email. I’d be happy to help you.
